Wrestlers’ Protest at Jantar Mantar: Sidhu Calls for Brij Bhushan’s Custodial Interrogation
A persistent drizzle disrupted the ongoing protest by wrestlers at Jantar Mantar, causing chaos and inconvenience for the supporters. Despite the unfavorable weather conditions, the wrestlers vowed to continue their demonstration, with support from various quarters pouring in. Among those lending their support was former Indian cricketer and Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu, who called for the custodial interrogation of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
Custodial Interrogation Demanded for Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh
In his address to the protestors, Sidhu demanded that Brij Bhushan be arrested and subjected to custodial interrogation. He questioned why the FIR against Brij Bhushan had been delayed and why the accused was still in a position of influence and dominance despite the serious allegations levelled against him. Sidhu expressed doubts about the intent behind protecting Brij Bhushan and said that a fair investigation would be impossible with him at the helm of affairs.
Support from Other Political Leaders
Apart from Sidhu, other political leaders have also expressed their support for the wrestlers’ protest. These include Congress party’s Priyanka Gandhi and Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Rashtriya Lok Dal leader Jayant Chaudhary, former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik, former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Singh Rawat, and Delhi government ministers Atishi Singh and Saurabh Bhardwaj.
Murmurs of Escalation
There are murmurs that if the authorities do not help the wrestlers and Brij Bhushan is not punished, farmer leaders together with khap leaders will block the Delhi borders. The wrestlers have not yet made any official statement regarding this. However, they remain determined to continue their protest until their demands are met.
The ongoing protest by wrestlers at Jantar Mantar has gained momentum with the support of political leaders and the general public. The protestors have braved the rain and unfavorable weather conditions to demand justice for the serious allegations levelled against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The demand for custodial interrogation of the accused shows the seriousness of the allegations and the need for a fair and impartial investigation. It remains to be seen how the authorities respond to the protestors’ demands and whether the protest escalates in the days to come.
